OVERVIEW
After enjoying the most consistent season of his career in 2013, Dennis Armfield began season 2014 on the sidelines.
The 27-year-old endured an injury interrupted pre-season, before returning through Carlton's VFL affiliate the Northern Blues.
It wasn’t until Round 8 that Armfield made his way back into Carlton’s senior side, but it was a winning return, with the Blues taking out a 32-point win over St Kilda.
Off the field, Armfield continued his work in the community, becoming an ambassador for leading drug and alcohol rehabilitation organisation Odyssey House Victoria.
HE SAID IT
"It's great to be back. The boys were really welcoming before the game and they really backed me, which has been good for the confidence. Everyone really played their role and thats how we got the win."
- Dennis Armfield, speaking after the Blues' 32-point win against St Kilda in Round 8.
THEY SAID IT
"We've got 88 students at the moment and it's probably quite an eclectic mix of kids from different backgrounds. Compared to mainstream schools we have a higher ratio of kids who have been disengaged with schools in the past. These kids require a lot more support and if it wasn't for that, a lot of them wouldn't be at school at at all. Seeing people like Dennis come in from the community gives them that sense of respect and a sense of belonging."
- Brian Considine, Principal of Sydney Road Community School speaking about Dennis Armfield.
SEASON HIGHLIGHT
Armfield finished with 12 disposals including two marks and six tackles in Carlton’s Round 8 win over St Kilda, whilst he restricted the Saints' Jack Steven to just four kicks.
