In-form Carlton ruckman Matthew Kreuzer is set to undergo concussion tests in the coming days which will determine his availability for selection for the Blues’ clash against Essendon on Saturday.
Head of Football Andrew McKay said the big man was on light duties after a heavy tackle during the game against Geelong on Saturday night.
“Matthew Kreuzer sustained mild concussion in the game on the weekend. He’s progressing slowly and will have concussion tests,” McKay said.
“He’s on light duties at the moment but he’ll be a test at the end of the week so we’ll just have to wait and see if he can get up for the game.”
Defenders Ciaran Byrne and Dylan Buckley also remain a chance to return to the senior side, and will spend time with the Club’s medical and high performance teams before being cleared to play.
“Dylan is progressing really well – what was initially a three-week injury, we think we are able to get him back earlier than first thought so we’ll test him at the end of the week to see if he’s available for selection.”
“We were hoping Ciaran would be able to get up for last week, but that wasn’t to be. He’ll be a test at the end of the week, and we’re confident he’ll play at some level.”
Meanwhile, Blues utility Ed Curnow has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after consultation with a specialist last week.
“Ed saw the specialist late last week and follow up scans have revealed more damage than what we first thought,” McKay said.
“He has a slight split in the cartilage around his larynx which means he’ll be out for the rest of the season unfortunately but he’ll be back for the start of pre-season fit and healthy to go.”
