Despite a solid 38-point win over the Brisbane Lions, Carlton is well aware it needs to continually develop in order to improve as a team.
Captain Marc Murphy highlighted the Blues' philosophy to simply better their game every week.
“As a collective we’re trying to improve week to week and that’s a mantra at the Club we’ve got,” Murphy told RSN on Wednesday.
“It’s about improving week to week and really sticking by that.”
Murphy said despite the Club’s recent wins, there was still a long way to go in terms of the group’s development, with the side still determined to be definted by pressure and effort.
“We’ve set some pretty high standards in terms of our pressure, especially against Geelong,” Murphy said.
“Then the following week you want to beat that and replicate that, and that’s the challenges of team sports, once you set those goals week to week and then achieve them, you want to try and set them higher.”
The midfielder, who is currently recovering from an ankle injury, says the team will be looking to “rectify” areas of their game that they weren’t happy with against Brisbane.
“On the weekend we won, but we didn’t win the way we like to win, we thought our pressure wasn’t where it needed to be, so this week’s a really good chance to rectify that,” Murphy said.
The Blues take on the Saints this week at Etihad Stadium, and after suffering a disappointing 88-point loss to Adelaide in Round 11, are set to come out firing.
Although they are yet to win a game outside Melbourne, St Kilda have won three of their last four games at Docklands – posing a real threat for Carlton.
“They’ve impressed me St Kilda with the way they attack and no doubt they’ll bring that this week,” Murphy said.
Carlton takes on the Saints this Sunday at Etihad Stadium, with the match kicking off at 1:10pm.
