‘Welcome to your new home, we’re all behind you’ – that was the message Carlton’s new recruits saw as they walked through the doors at Ikon Park for the first time as Blues players.

After the inaugural AFL Women’s draft on Wednesday afternoon, the Blues invited the newest members of its AFLW team and their families to the Club that evening.

In keeping with Carlton’s whole-of-club approach, coaches, staff and Board members were on hand to welcome the draftees, who were all proud to now call themselves Carlton players and be Bound By Blue.

Everyone enjoyed dinner as they mingled in the warm-up area, before being addressed by President Mark LoGiudice and learning a bit about the history of the Club.

Senior women’s coach Damien Keeping said it was important for all the new draftees to come together and get to know each other.

“After the draft we thought it was really vital to get the players together at Ikon Park, so they feel part of the Club right from the beginning,” Keeping said.

“It’s been a massive day for the players and their families and we wanted them to know we will support each and every one of them – we’re all in this together.”

Carlton now has 24 players assigned to its list, with three more spots to be filled in the coming weeks.

The Blues’ AFLW team begins pre-season in November, with the competition kicking off in February next year.
