Carlton fan-favourite Dennis Armfield will run out in the navy blue next season after agreeing to a new one-year deal.
The 29-year-old will now remain at the Blues until at least the end of 2017.
Continuing his playing career, Armfield has also agreed to a part-time coaching role at the Club as a specialist skills coach for Carlton’s women’s team.
Armfield will work alongside senior women’s coach Damien Keeping and the Club’s assistant coaches in the one-day-a-week role.

Ahead of his ninth pre-season campaign, Armfield said he was thrilled to have locked in a new contract with the Blues.
“Carlton means so much to me, I’ve been here for nearly ten years and there is a really good feeling at the Club. We’re a developing side, and I am passionate about teaching our younger players and hopefully having a positive influence on them,” Armfield said.
“The body is feeling good and I still feel I have a fair bit to offer in terms of my playing career, so I am thankful the Club has given me this opportunity to go around again.
“To also explore my passion for coaching through a part-time role with our women’s team is a terrific opportunity – I think these talented female footballers have so much to offer and I can’t wait to play a small role in this exciting new competition.”
Head of Football Andrew McKay praised Armfield’s team-first mentality.
“Dennis is a very respected member of our playing group and clearly, a fan-favourite among Blues supporters,” McKay said.
“He is a fantastic role model and leads by example around the Club. Setting a really clear standard for our younger players to learn from, we’re thrilled he is going around for another year.
“Dennis’ new part-time coaching role with our women’s team further cements his widely noted team-first mentality and he will play a key role in the integration between our club’s two football programs.”
Armfield was drafted to the Blues in the 2007 national draft as the Club’s overall third-round selection. The versatile on-baller made his debut in Round 10, 2008 against Geelong.
In 2012, Armfield was Carlton’s Best Clubman and was recognised for his outstanding charity work in 2015 as the winner of the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award.
