Stephen Kernahan, Brett Ratten and Chris Judd led Carlton’s contingent at the Peter Mac Cup Breakfast on Wednesday morning at ZINC at Federation Square.

Over 400 people attended the breakfast where in excess of $22,000 was raised during the auction alone.

Now in its 17th year, the Peter Mac Cup is held to celebrate the commitment shown by Carlton & Collingwood to advancing the cause of cancer research.

Melbourne's Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre has just celebrated 60 Years of caring for Victorians. For 60 years, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre has had a special place in the hearts and minds of many Victorians. It is as uniquely Victorian as Australian Rules Football. Every one has a football story and most people have a "Peter Mac" story. Sometimes those stories are inspiring and full of hope but the reality remains that some cancer stories do not end so well.

Peter Mac has contributed to the ever-growing advances in cancer diagnosis and treatments. Today in Australia, more than 60 per cent of people diagnosed with cancer survive in the long term. Peter Mac staff strive to ever increase that statistic. Sixty years ago, the survival rate was 25 per cent.

The medical evolution we have witnessed over the last sixty years across a wide range of cancer types has increasingly cured or prolonged patients’ lives significantly. Underpinning all medical advances, is years of research, learning and discovery. Peter Mac contains the largest cancer research group in Australia. Peter Mac is at the forefront of cancer treatment and research and continues to recruit and train the brightest young researchers in cancer for the future.
