The Blues kicked 3.11 in the second half to stumble to the upset seven-point defeat and the coach has demanded that his players lift across the board.
"Brendan's performance, with other players, wasn't up to where we'd like it to be, [but] he was just one of many who didn't contribute on the day," Ratten said following the Peter Mac Foundation charity breakfast on Wednesday.
"We need all our players to contribute during games. In all our losses this year you'll find that we've had six players in the top 10 on the ground, but then we really fall away.
"Like most teams if you don’t get the ledger close to 18 out of your 22 players contributing then you struggle to win. We've had players who have been outstanding on the day and then it really drops off.
"The good sides get 18 to 20 contributors, they play their part and away they go and win games of football, we haven’t got that."
Fevola looms as a key figure in Sunday's match against Collingwood and Ratten dispelled any lingering doubts about his fitness.
"He went into the game after an eight-goal haul the week before," he said.
"They were about to bounce the ball and I get a message down the phone that he's felt a little tweak in his buttock. He came off, got assessed and he got the all clear. He's fine."
Both the Pies and the Blues find themselves in precarious positions after slipping into negative territory with disappointing losses leading into the clash of the traditional rivals.
"It's an eight-point game," Ratten said.
"With the ledger on the negative side both teams really need the victory. It's a big game for both teams."
Asked about possible changes to the team ahead of the match, Ratten conceded young firebrand Mitch Robinson would be likely to return after a stint with the Bullants with forgotten forward Brad Fisher also edging toward a return to senior footy.
"Brad will be fairly close. He's worked extremely hard at VFL level," he said.
"He kicked three goals at the weekend – we didn't see that game because we were on the Gold Coast - but I've watched him for two weeks in a row and his performances have really gone well as has Adam Hartlett.
"He's played back and forward and his performances have been really good as well so they'll be in the mix."
