The Carlton Football Club hosted a special day at Visy Park today with a number of families involved with Challenge - supporting kids with cancer, meeting the players and enjoying a kick on the ground.

The visit was arranged with Challenge as part of Carlton’s Community Program and it is designed to give the children and families involved with Challenge a boost in the lead up to Christmas. Carlton is proud to have a long association with Challenge through these special functions at Visy Park and through individual visits by children and families to Visy Park and Carlton games.

The children and families had a tour of the facilities at Visy Park and then spent around 20-minutes with the players in the warm up area near the Carlton change rooms. As expected Chris Judd was one player they all wanted to see and speak to but to the young children the chance to meet a Carlton player, including some of the first year players, was such a wonderful opportunity.  A Challenge ‘team photo’ in the Carlton locker room was a real highlight for everyone.

After meeting the players, the children had their very own kicking competition in the warm up area with Challenge CEO David Rogers giving the winner tickets for their family to attend Carlton’s first game in 2012, an away game against Richmond at the MCG on Thursday March 29.

Then it was onto the ground for a kick on Visy Park before a BBQ lunch and refreshments. Then, to top off a great day at the Carlton Football Club, Marc Murphy came out to spend valuable time with the children and their families. Marc had just finished a training session and was about to go into a meeting but made the time to chat with the children and sign autographs and have his photo taken with all the children from Challenge.

All the children went home with great memories and a special Carlton bag with some gifts as part of the Carlton Football Club Challenge Christmas Party.

The Carlton Football Club takes great pride in playing an active role and making a year-round commitment to the community, in particular through the facilities at Visy Park. The Carlton players are very aware of the opportunity they have through being an AFL player to bring happiness into the lives of so many people such as the children and families involved with Challenge.
