Over 800 Carlton Junior Members took over Princes Park today for the second Junior Members clinic in 2008. The weather was no deterrent for the young Carlton members who were anxious to take part in the football activities and of course meet some of their Carlton idols, including Captain Carlton.

And the young supporters were certainly not disappointed with over half of the winning team from Saturday’s victory over Richmond at the clinic. While the players have been given a few days off and are not due back to the Club for training until tomorrow, they were keen to be involved in this special day for the young Carlton fans.

Nick Stevens, Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs, Kade Simpson, Eddie Betts, Jordan Russell, Joe Anderson, Matthew Kreuzer, Steven Browne, Setanta O’hAilpin, Bret Thornton and Jake Edwards who all played on Saturday were joined by a number of other players at the Junior Clinic including Richard Hadley, Andrew Walker, Paul Bower, Lauchie Hill, Shaun Hampson and Adam Hartlett. Plus of course Captain Carlton the Club’s official mascot was also on hand for the day.

The activities for the children, aged between two and 15, were organised by Camp Australia with the Carlton players assisting the children and being involved in a number of the activities. The tug-of-war was once again one of the favourite activities, together with the goal umpire flag waving. Naturally the football activities; kicking, marking, handballing, goal kicking etc. were also very popular.

“This is fantastic for the Club, it is great to see so many young Carlton members here enjoying the morning and it is great for the players as well. Not only do we get to meet so many of the young fans but being involved with the activities and seeing the kids having so much fun is what it is all about,” Nick Stevens said as he was mobbed by a group of True Blues.

“These days remind you what footy means to people and in particular the Carlton Football Club. Let’s hope these young supporters are able to enjoy some great times celebrating Carlton success as they grow up,” Stevens added.

The first Carlton Junior Members Clinic was held in the last school holidays and was also a huge success. The Clinics are free for Captain Carlton Members and are a popular aspect of the Captain Carlton membership.

No junior clinic at Carlton would be complete without the involvement of Carlton’s official mascot and Captain Carlton was on hand to meet with the children and show his acrobatic talents during the morning. Like the Carlton players and junior members Captain Carlton did not let a little rain dampen his spirits or his acrobatic skills. Indeed it is fair to say Captain Carlton is as popular as any player at these junior clinics.
