CARLTON has drafted Courtney Jones to the fold after selecting the speedy winger with pick No.59 in the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.
Transitioning from her 2018 NAB League season to a 2019 campaign in the VFLW competition, Jones took her game to another level with the Southern Saints.
One of the best ball-users in the draft, Jones - who is renowned for her kicking and decision-making - showed her talent and class in 2019.
Her selection was even more significant considering she had to put the disappointment of missing out on the 2018 draft behind her: Jones was named All Australian in her underage year for the Dandenong Stingrays.
GM of Women’s Football Ash Brown said all at the Club couldn’t wait to see what Jones could produce at the next level.
“We’re excited to welcome Courtney on our list ahead of the 2020 season: we think she can really add something to our young midfield,” Brown said.
“The way she has been able to bounce back this year and put together a great season at VFLW level is a credit to her: she has a fantastic understanding of the game.
“Her main strength is what she can do with ball-in-hand and she makes the right decision more often than not. Her best is really good and we can’t wait to see what she can do for our football club.”
