WITH the dust settling on the trade that will see Eddie Betts pull on the Navy Blue once more, it’s all still sinking in for the electric small forward.

Monday sealed a homecoming for Betts, who admits the emotion of walking back through the doors of Ikon Park after six years was an overwhelming experience.

Betts was lost for words when describing his return to Carlton when speaking to Matthew Lloyd and Damian Barret on Trade Radio on Tuesday morning.

“I haven’t been back for six years since I left and walking back in was a little bit weird — but that was a good feeling, a good weird,” Betts said.

“I got a little bit emotional, knowing that I’m back where it all started.

“Moving back to where it all started was exciting for myself and my family.”

The decision to return home to the Club where it all started came down to timing for the accomplished forward.

“It was just the right time for me. For where my footy is at, my career is at and with my family too,” he said.

“Having four kids here in Adelaide… that all came into factor as well. I guess that’s when I basically made the decision to move back to Melbourne.”

Betts adds a considerable amount of experience to an exciting young forward line featuring talls Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay and Mitch McGovern.

The 316-gamer brings a wealth of experience at this stage in his footy career, and he believes he can offer just as much off-field as on it in 2020.

“It was a tough decision and I guess I just believed that it was the right choice for myself and where I’m at in my footy career,” he said.

“I’m 32 but I still believe that I’ve got a lot to offer and I guess I’ve had to make that decision.”

But heading into 2020, the focus for Betts is simple.

“I just want to play footy. I just want to enjoy my footy and I want to have fun and at the moment that’s what I’m going to do.”
