With instrumental performances in the Blues’ one-point victory over the ladder-leading Giants, Carlton’s Sam Docherty and Matthew Kreuzer have again secured a spot in AFL Media’s ‘Team of the Week’.
As a frequent feature in the best 22, Docherty was named in this week’s side as a backman alongside Gold Coast’s Steven May and Adelaide’s Jake Lever.
The selection of the 23-year-old came after he tallied 35 possessions, eight rebound 50s and 12 marks in the Blues’ upset win.
To cap off a stellar 150th game, Kreuzer landed himself a position in this week’s team after he managed 21 disposals, 33 hitouts, eight tackles and one goal in the Round 12 clash.
The 28-year-old, who is also no stranger to AFL Media’s best 22, was named as a follower alongside Bomber Zach Merret and Swan Isaac Heeney.
As two players among the most dominant at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Docherty and Kreuzer earned the praise of senior coaches Brendon Bolton and Leon Cameron with nine and eight votes afforded to the players respectively, for the 2017 Shadforth Financial Group AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award.
Carlton’s Liam Jones and Marc Murphy also polled two votes each alongside GWS players Dylan Shiel (7) and Lachie Whitfield (2).
The Blues’ skipper managed 30 disposals in the match, while Jones collected 14 at 93 per cent efficiency, as well as eight marks in an impressive return to the main stage.
Carlton will hope the four can carry through their strong form when the side heads north to battle the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday 17 June at Metricon Stadium.
