A second straight win for the Northern Blues has Carlton-listed youngster Patrick Kerr excited about what lies ahead.
The Blues emphatically accounted for their suburban rival Coburg at Piranha Park yesterday, running away with a 62-point win.
It was Northern’s biggest win in their two years under the guidance of senior coach Josh Fraser, and capped off a perfect weekend from a Carlton perspective.
Kerr said the result against a dogged opponent was the ideal follow-up to a win over Williamstown a week prior.
“It was a big win, it proves the depth we’re starting to build. We made a few changes during the week and the win shows the direction we’re heading in,” Kerr said.
“To cap off with a 10-plus-goal win was good reward for the boys.”
After putting together what Fraser described as his best game in his short time at the club against the Seagulls, Kerr’s individual performance was once again impressive.
The first-year tall collected 15 disposals, took 11 marks and kicked three goals in a commanding performance forward of centre which saw him included in the best players according to his coaches.

When quizzed about his personal form, Kerr said he was reaping full benefit from his team’s good work ahead of him.
“I feel like I’m adjusting to the level: we’ve got so much talent in the team at the moment that it’s not hard for them to kick the ball to you,” Kerr said.
“As a forward you put a lot of reliance up the field and our midfield is tracking really well at the moment.”
Kerr re-iterated fellow 2016 draftee Cameron Polson’s sentiments of a fortnight ago, saying his young teammates’ showings at senior level was cause for extra motivation.
“The goal is to be playing AFL but you have to find some form in the VFL to start off with and to build a case off the back of it,” Kerr said.
“I’ll keep working hard here and hopefully as a team we keep getting wins and build our season.”
With two wins on the trot, Northern heads to Collingwood’s Victoria Park on Sunday afternoon.
Despite a convincing victory yesterday, Kerr said there was still a lot of improvement in the offing for the Blues starting this weekend.
“It was a clear message post-game: we played some good footy but it was on-and-off at times. We need to string together a full game. A four-quarter effort is certainly what we’re after.”
