The Carlton Football Club embarked on the second stage of its journey under senior coach Brendon Bolton in 2017. 

After registering six wins, the Blues finished the season in 16th place on the ladder.

Despite falling four points short of the 2016 season, Carlton won more quarters in 2017, demonstrating the growth of the playing group in its second year with Bolton at the helm.

With the team now on a break, we’re analysing each player’s year in statistics. Here’s the review for first-year Blue Jarrod Pickett.

OVERVIEW

With electrifying speed, Pickett excited the Carlton faithful across 10 appearances in 2017.

Arriving at the Club from Greater Western Sydney during last year’s trade period, the former Giant made his long-awaited AFL debut in Round 1.

He went on to play five successive matches, booting his first AFL goal against Melbourne at the MCG in Round 2.

While he struggled for consistency during the middle of the season, he struck exciting form late, tempting the Carlton faithful with his talent as the season came to an end.

Featuring in the senior line-up for Carlton’s final four matches, the crafty small forward ended 2017 with six goals.

There’s no doubt the youngster will strive to add to his tally when he returns to the park in 2018.

BEST PERFORMANCE 

Pickett stepped into gear against Hawthorn in Round 22.

In a breakout performance, the youngster amassed a career-high 16 disposals, three marks and two goals.

SEASON HIGHLIGHT

The speedster put his foot on the pedal to bring Essendon’s Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti to ground in Round 20.

With four metres to gain on the pacy Bomber, Pickett accelerated, closing the gap to lay the tackle that awarded him our 2017 Hardest Hit of the Year.
