Carlton has made more AFLW history, securing All-Australian defender Nicola Stevens from Collingwood in the first-ever trade of the 2017 AFLW Trade Period.

Stevens arrives at the Blues along with Collingwood’s Pick 28 in the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Draft, in exchange for Carlton’s future first, second and third-round selections.

Carlton AFLW coach Damien Keeping said he was excited to welcome the key defender to the Blues.

“Nicola has established herself as one of the most elite players in the competition, so we’re very pleased to have her join Carlton,” Keeping said.

“She reads the flight of the ball exceptionally well and marks in contested and uncontested situations.

“Nicola is someone who we feel will add to the culture of the Club both on and off the field.”

Initially selected as a Magpie with pick No.6 in the inaugural AFLW National Draft, Stevens joins Carlton after a stellar inaugural season which saw her crowned Collingwood’s AFLW Best and Fairest.

With an average of 9.6 disposals and a total of 23 marks and 22 tackles, the 24-year-old is set to bolster the Blues’ defensive structure in 2018.
