Laidler had scans this morning and met with his specialist and Carlton medical staff this evening. He will have an arthroscopic examination tomorrow afternoon.
Carlton's General Manager of Football Operations, Andrew McKay, said that although the Club was disappointed to lose Laidler for up to six weeks, the result could have been a lot different.
"The arthroscopic examination is to flush out the knee and, while it is disappointing, the injury certainly could have been much worse. Six weeks is worst case scenario so he will be back playing no later than round 3," McKay said.
