A few swift steps and a snap along the boundary have landed Carlton captain Marc Murphy a Round 3 nomination for the AFL’s Goal of the Year.

In wet and blusterous conditions, Carlton battled Essendon where goals were few and far between.

But following a sharp hand pass from Bryce Gibbs, Murphy defied the odds to pull off the checkside goal halfway through a slippery third term.
