CALEB Marchbank says he’s finally hitting his straps in what has been an injury-riddled season.

The defender was a shining light for the Blues in Sunday’s loss to the Bulldogs, amassing 21 disposals and 11 marks (including three contested).

He said despite the result on the weekend, he recognised strengths in his own performance.

“On the weekend we had a pretty disappointing result. We were in there for three quarters but unfortunately for the last quarter we couldn’t quite hold on,” Marchbank said. 

“In terms of my own performance I was pretty happy with how I went. It’s been a bit of a rough year for me but I’m glad that I’m playing some consistent footy towards the end of the season.”

The 193cm backman was sidelined with an ankle injury in the Blues’ Round 3 clash against Collingwood. He has played in the past seven games since making his return against Port Adelaide.

“The season hasn’t been great for me. I’ve missed about 10 weeks through my ankle injury. It was pretty annoying, especially after I had a full pre-season for the first time since I started playing AFL,” he said.

“It’s pretty disappointing for myself but I’ve started playing in the back half of the season and I’m starting to find some form which is good.”

With one round left in the 2018 season, the 21-year-old will seize the opportunity to solidify his growth against the Crows on Saturday. 

The Blues’ season finale will be the second time Carlton has faced Adelaide this year, with the team having suffered a 55-point loss to the reigning grand finalists in Round 7.

“This weekend will be our last game for the year, so we want to come and win the game. They’re obviously a quality opposition. We have got to be careful with their forward line – it can be pretty dangerous,” Marchbank said.

“Us defenders will have to be on our toes. It’s going to be a good challenge. I’m looking forward to it.”
