The Northern Blues will get its 2016 campaign underway against Footscray on Sunday April 10, as confirmed by the release of the 2016 Peter Jackson VFL fixture today.

Northern will be looking to get its season off to the best possible start against the Dogs at VU Whitten Oval, in an overall fixture which promises a few exciting initiatives for Blues fans.

Next season will see the Blues feature on Friday night football in Round 2 as they travel to Simonds Stadium, as well as hosting traditional rivals Port Melbourne and Coburg at Preston City Oval.

After opening the season against each other for the last two years, the Blues’ first meeting with reigning premier Williamstown comes in Round 6 at Burbank Oval, with the return match in Round 20 at Ikon Park.

Footscray, Geelong and Collingwood are the other sides who the Blues face twice.

In positive news, the club’s request that no Northern game clashes with Carlton fixtures has been heeded by AFL Victoria, giving fans the best chance to see the young Blues in action.

While no curtain raisers have been pencilled in, the club will continue to work with AFL Victoria over the off-season with matches subject to change.

As it stands, the Blues will finish the home-and-away season with a trip to Windy Hill to face Essendon in Round 21.
