Chris Judd was named vice-captain of the 2011 All-Australian Team at a function in Melbourne this evening.

This is the sixth time Judd has been selected in the All-Australian Team (2004, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010). Judd has been named captain of the All Australian team on one occasion and this is the second time he has been named as the deputy. Despite having won the AFLPA MPV Award by nearly 900 votes and clearly being selected as the best player in the competition by his peers, the judging panel opted for Gold Coasts Gary Ablett as captain.

Judd played 22 games during the season averaging 12.8 kicks, 14.4 handballs and 2.9 marks a game, together with a total of 148 clearances for the season.

Carlton’s other representative in the All-Australian Team for 2011 is Marc Murphy, his first All Australian selection. This is just reward for an outstanding season by Murphy.

He played 22 home & away games averaging 16.2 kicks, 4.6 marks and 12.9 handballs a game, finishing with the fourth most disposals in the AFL.

Carlton’s two other representatives in the initial 40-players squad; Heath Scotland and Eddie Betts missed out on selection.

In other news from the All-Australian function many were surprised when Andrew Walker was not named the winner of the Mark of the Year. The judging panel announced Collingwood’s Andrew Krakouer as the winner.

Congratulations to Chris Judd and Marc Murphy on their selection in the All Australian Team and also to Heath Scotland and Eddie Betts on their nomination in the 40-person squad.
