CONGRATULATIONS are in order for three Carlton figures who featured in the 2019 Honours List to recognise outstanding contributions by individuals.
Former captain Mike Fitzpatrick was recognised as an Officer of the Order of Australia, board member Luke Sayers was named a member of the Order of Australia and Blue-turned-politician Garry Higgins was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.
Fitzpatrick was recognised as as AO in the General Division for “distinguished service to Australian rules football through executive roles, to business, and to medical research”.

His work extended beyond the football field, with the Rhodes Scholar appointed as chairman of the AFL Commission from 2007 to 2017.
Under his leadership, the competition expanded to welcome two new teams (Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney). His tenure culminated in the introduction of the AFL Women’s competition, which kicked off with incredible success at Ikon Park in February 2017.
Luke Sayers AM was acknowledged yesterday for his significant service to business, to people with a disability, and to the community.
He has been a member of Carlton’s board since 2012, and is the CEO of PwC Australia.
