DAVID Cuningham will make his return to action for the Northern Blues on Sunday.

After being sidelined since the mid-season bye with a knee injury, Cuningham will play his first game in nearly two months when he features for Northern in the VFL curtain raiser at Marvel Stadium.

Prior to his injury, the 21-year-old was enjoying a career-best season, averaging 17 disposals and just shy of a goal a game as he rotated his time between the midfield and forward lines.

Joining Cuningham as a confirmed inclusion is young defender Harrison Macreadie, who missed last weekend’s big win over North Melbourne.

Macreadie is likely to hold down a defensive post alongside Alex Johnson and potentially Hugh Goddard, who could make his return at either AFL or VFL level this week.

Goddard - who fractured his cheekbone three weeks ago - has been named on the AFL extended bench, alongside Josh Deluca, Paddy Dow and Nic Newman.

Rounding out the all-AFL list of inclusions is Finbar O’Dwyer, who was unavailable last weekend due to a shoulder injury.

Sunday’s game will be the first in a double-header at Marvel Stadium, kicking off from 11:50am: the AFL game will follow at 3:20pm.

For those wishing to attend, please note that you will need a valid ticket to the AFL game .A VFL membership will not grant you entry into Sunday’s game.

The game will also be televised live on Channel 7.
