LIAM Stocker gave Carlton fans something to be excited about in his VFL debut against Geelong on Sunday.
The young Blue played a defensive role in the triumphant one-point victory, notching 16 disposals and seven rebound 50s.
“It was a really solid performance,” development coach Shane Watson said.
“The targets he hit by foot out the defensive 50 were fantastic for us and really got our momentum going with ball movement.”
The youngster demonstrated confidence in his first VFL showing, taking kick-in responsibilities in what turned out to be fourth-quarter nail-biter.
Watson commended the first-year player for his composure when the heat was on and a small margin in the game.
“For him to go and execute the way he did under pressure was a real step in the right direction,” he said.

Stocker played the majority of his under-18s career as a midfielder but has added another string to his bow in defence since joining the Blues.
“He’s working really hard on basic things like spoiling, body contact and defending his opponent,” he said.
“He’s had some opportunities over the last couple of weeks in the midfield, but we want to grow his defensive work across half-back.”
