THE Northern Blues did it again at Victoria Park.

After a one-point triumph to open season 2019 last week, the Blues came back from the brink of defeat to prevail over Collingwood by three points.

Patrick Kerr proved to be the hero, kicking his third goal in the dying minutes to seal a memorable win for Northern.

After trailing by nine points late in the fourth quarter, the Blues’ spirit once again came to the fore.

There wasn’t much between the two teams all day, with the game seeing ebbs and flows of momentum for four quarters.

Just as the Blues looked to take the ascendancy, Collingwood hit back to wrestle the momentum from Northern’s grasp.

Similarly, just as Northern looked out of it, they found a way to get back in the contest.

The Pies opened proceedings with the opening two goals of the game before Northern responded late — it would set the tone for the rest of the day.

However, most importantly for the Blues, they were able to find themselves ahead on the scoreboard as the final siren rang around Victoria Park.

Hugh Goddard played a big part in keeping the Blues in the contest throughout the early going, defending brilliantly against Ben Reid.

He was joined by defensive pair Harrison Macreadie and Tom Williamson, who shone on return to collect 13 disposals apiece in solid return outings.

Second-gamer Frank Anderson continued his impressive start to life in the VFL, collecting 18 disposals and kicking a vital goal in the final term.

However, the day would ultimately belong to Kerr, whose third goal clinched a second straight win for the Blues in the most dramatic of circumstances.
