CARLTON will take on the in-form Suns away from home this Sunday for its Round 4 clash at Metricon Stadium.

The Blues are determined to get four points on the board after a string of frustrating close losses. Despite showing signs of promise, Carlton has so far been unable to get the job done.

Despite a strong record against Gold Coast, it will be no easy feat knocking off the confident Suns after two consecutive wins.

THE GAME IN FOCUS:

It has been a frustrating start to the season for the Blues, with their last two matches lost within 20-point margins.

Carlton again showed promise in Round 3, but made themselves pay with a second-quarter concentration lapse that Sydney quickly capitalised on.

Sam Walsh impressed for another week, notching up 28 disposals and kicking his first AFL goal to keep the Blues in contention and show fans he’s a player for the future.

The Suns will take a new-found confidence into the weekend’s match, having recorded another narrow win over the Bulldogs away from home.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET:

Carlton’s record against Gold Coast should give fans confidence heading into the weekend’s match, with the Blues winning six out of the 10 games between the two sides.

Carlton notched its second consecutive win at Metricon Stadium the last time these two teams met in Round 19 last year.

It was a low-scoring affair with the Suns hitting the front early, but the Blues came out strong after half-time to bury Gold Coast by 35 points.

Patrick Cripps had a day out in the sunshine state, finishing the day on 37 disposals, 11 tackles and a goal on the way to a three-vote performance.

Reliable as always, Kade Simpson was instrumental in shutting down the Suns’ attack to keep them to just two goals after the first quarter.

BLUE FOCUS:

Dependable ruckman Matthew Lobbe will run out in the Navy Blue for his 100th game on Sunday.

Lobbe has been a key ally to big men Matthew Kreuzer and Andrew Phillips since making the move from Port Adelaide in 2017.

In a round of milestones, Sunday also marks the 50th AFL game for star forward Charlie Curnow and the 50th game in Navy Blue for defender Liam Jones.

GET EXCITED ABOUT:

Fans will be pleased to see the return Charlie Curnow to the side after missing the last round with bone bruising to his knee.

The Blues have struggled over the opening rounds to convert inside 50s into scoring opportunities, so they’ll be hoping the dynamic Curnow is back at his best.

But with the Suns defence at its finest with the second highest rebound 50 count in the competition, it will be no easy feat for the returning star.

BLUE VIEW:

Gold Coast has arrived in 2019 and are not to be underestimated by the Blues.

Despite Carlton’s favourable record against them, the Suns are looking a more and more dangerous proposition by the week with a talented young list.

The Blues are edging closer to a win, but will need to maintain their pressure over the four quarters for the first time this season to get on the board.
