THE AFL is exactly where Ashton Moir is meant to be. And he knows it now.

It was nearly 12 months to the day when the Glenelg youngster walked through the doors of IKON Park, admittedly starry-eyed.

Come season’s end, he had two games as sub and two memorable goals to his belt. While year one may have been a blur, it gave him both the taste and clarity he’s after.

A self-professed footy lover, that love of the game isn’t dissipating anytime soon.

“I don’t reckon I’ll ever lose that. This is everything I’ve dreamed of my whole life. I just want to hang onto it as much as I can,” Moir told the season launch of the Summer Sessions podcast.

“This is the life I’ve dreamed of. The one thing, especially for this year, is to not be so starstruck. It’s about locking in and understanding that I belong here, that this is what I’m meant to do.”

Two of Moir’s oldest mates joined him in Navy Blue last week, with Ben and Lucas Camporeale - who Moir has known since he was seven - officially becoming father-son selections to call IKON Park home.

It allowed Moir to reminisce on his own 12 months, when he was taken with the final pick in the first round of the 2023 AFL Draft.

For Moir, there’s still plenty to smile about, still plenty of bucket list items to tick off — especially at the home of football.

“I want more. I want to play on the ‘G. I was meant to play there in my 17th year in a Futures game but a stress fracture got me. No good.

“I was carryover emergency in Round 1 [2024]. ‘Boydy’ took me out onto the ground: that was the first time I’d been on the turf.

“I just want to be out there in primetime. That’d be pretty cool.”

The newest episode of Summer Sessions launches on Thursday morning.
