One hundred and fifty years ago, the good men of the district met in a pub in the heart of Lygon Street, and the Carlton Football Club was born.

Now, 150 years later, Carlton and Nike are celebrating this landmark anniversary with a special commemorative guernsey to be worn in Rounds 7, 13 and 23.

Replicating the uniform worn by Carlton players during the Club’s most successful period, 1927-1997, the 150th anniversary guernsey features the iconic CFC crest that was donned by legends such as Harry Vallence, Ken Hands, John Nicholls, Bruce Doull, Stephen Kernahan and Stephen Silvagni.

The reintroduction of the iconic CFC crest is a nod of respect to Carlton’s origins and heritage, while the Club’s equal league record of 16 Premiership cups adorn the back of the guernsey.

While the commemorative guernsey celebrates Carlton’s rich history, Nike’s innovative design takes this and the Blues’ other 2014 jumpers into the future, by giving the team a technically advanced uniform that aids player comfort and performance.

Two years in the making and weighing just 165 grams, Carlton’s 2014 guernseys are 40% lighter than the previous uniform.

The guernsey is constructed from super-durable recycled polyester featuring Nike Dri-FIT technology, which draws moisture away from the body to help keep players cool and dry. The remodeled shape hugs the body drawing forward and down, to increase freedom of movement in a bespoke fit for each individual player. It’s also made right here in Australia.

The release coincides with Carlton and Nike renewing their partnership for a further six seasons, until 2019.
