THE Carlton Football Club has today unveiled its specially-designed guernsey for this Sunday’s AFLW Pride Game against the Western Bulldogs at Whitten Oval.

It is the second time the Blues and the Dogs will play in the AFLW Pride Game, which is proudly held to recognise and support the LBGTIQ community by celebrating  inclusiveness, gender diversity and welcoming all people, no matter their sexual orientation.

Last season, the Pride guernsey was designed by Carlton forward Darcy Vescio. This year, the Club opened the design up to artists through a social media call for interest.

Childhood Carlton supporter Alex Bajada’s design was ultimately selected. It will see the traditional navy blue guernsey mixed in with the LBGTIQ colours on both the front and the back.

Carlton captain Brianna Davey and Bulldogs co-captain Katie Brennan were both on hand at Whitten Oval on Tuesday afternoon to reveal their respective guernseys.

Davey said it was an honour to put on the Pride guernsey and play in this historic game after missing last year’s match through injury.

“Missing the pride game last year really hit home: for me personally, this game is huge. It touches me personally and is a big part of my life,’ Davey said.

“For me it’s always about raising awareness as much as we can and letting people know that it’s okay to be you, no matter who you are or what you believe in. We embrace that and that’s exactly what the game this Sunday against the Western Bulldogs is all about.”

The match-worn guernseys will be auctioned off after the game via the Blues’ online auction sitewith proceeds donated to LGBTIQ charity Minus18.

Minus18 are the champions for LGBTIQ youth in Australia. The charity creates social change and mobilises community support through their identify-affirming youth-driven events, workshops, education resources and campaigns nationwide.

There are a limited number of Pride guernseys available at the Carlton Shop from today and available to purchase at Whitten Oval on Sunday (unless sold out prior).

Head along to Whitten Oval on Sunday to support the cause and the Blues, who will look to earn a place in the AFLW finals for the first time in the Club’s history.
