Carlton's big-kicking rookie Tom Fields brought his mum to tears this week – tears of happiness at learning her son is poised to make his AFL debut.
Fields has today been upgraded from Carlton's rookie list and named in the side to take on the Tigers at the MCG on Friday night.
It comes in the wake of some solid performances in the VFL, which have included some long bombs from the backline to the centre square.

The 22-year-old Queenslander couldn't wipe the smile from his face when he was given the good news.
"It feels incredible – I can't explain how I'm feeling right now, it's just amazing," Fields said.
"There's still a long way to go, and I have a big challenge ahead tomorrow night, but I feel like I've come a long way this year and I'm determined to keep working hard."
The inclusion of Fields is one of four changes to Carlton's lineup.
Andrew Carrazzo and Troy Menzel return from injury, while Bryce Gibbs is back from suspension.
Nick Graham is out injured while Blaine Johnson, Blaine Boekhorst and Mark Whiley have been omitted.
