Carlton tall forward Harry McKay is looking forward to the proposition of the Club’s new-look attack in 2019.
McKay and his fellow forwards were joined by new recruits Alex Fasolo and Mitch McGovern, with Carlton’s off-season so far welcoming five new players in total.
Returning with the Club’s first to fourth year players this week, McKay said getting to work with his new teammates was going to make for an exciting summer.
“It was great to get Mitch [McGovern] and Alex Fasolo to the Club… I’ve met them, they’re both really good fellas,” McKay said.
“They’re going to be really good additions to the forward line. I’m looking forward to getting to work with them over the summer.”
The arrivals of Fasolo and McGovern saw the Blues add some significant goal threat to their ranks: the new duo join Levi Casboult, Charlie Curnow and McKay to average over a goal per game.
As he gets to know his new teammates, McKay was quick to pay credit to a number of returning Blues who have impressed him in the opening week of pre-season.
“Cameron Polson and Angus Schumacher have been training well — I was up on the Gold Coast with them and they’ve been training really strongly,” McKay said.
“Harrison Macreadie as well. He’s been moving really well after he missed quite a bit of footy last year.”
McKay broke through with a strong second half of the season, and he’s looking to build on that form as he prepares for his fourth season in the AFL.
The 20-year-old said on the back of a big summer, both he and the team could improve quickly with the focus firmly on 2019.
“It’s a long eight weeks without seeing anybody so it’s fantastic to get back. Everyone’s looking really fit and we’re four sessions down now,” McKay said.
“As a team, we want to build consistency after a poor year: over the summer, we can build some really strong habits and improve pretty quickly.
“Individually, I’m in the same boat and just want to play four quarters of consistent footy. I was pretty patchy at times last year, so being able to play consistently will be my aim.”
