CARLTON AFLW captain Kerryn Peterson and her husband Joel have announced the exciting news that they are expecting their first child in 2025.

Having already shared the news with her teammates, Peterson - who also becomes the first AFLW Blue preparing to welcome a newborn whilst still playing - couldn’t contain her delight about what’s to come for her family.

“Joel and I have a really exciting journey ahead of us and can’t wait to welcome our own little Bluebagger into the world,” Peterson said.

"This footy club and its people have always been the most incredible support to us, and we’re excited for our baby to become part of it.

“It will be a different looking year for me, I’ve already been driving ‘Bucky’ mad trying to decide what off-field role I’ll play this season. In the meantime, I’ll be down at the Club and involved in as many sessions as I can and helping our group prepare for the season ahead.”

A one-club player and three-time All-Australian, Peterson has played in 64 games for the Blues as well as serving as Carlton’s AFLW captain for the last six seasons.

Head of AFLW Ash Naulty said the Club was thrilled for Kerryn and Joel.

“It is a really exciting time for them both and although we will miss having Kerryn on-field, the Club will support the Peterson family in every way,” Naulty said.

“Kerryn has a strong passion for this team and I have no doubt she will continue to play a pivotal part in our program this year.”

Peterson will be placed on the inactive list for the 2025 season: Carlton now has two remaining list spots for 2025, after the retirement of Celine Moody earlier this year.
