THE CARLTON Football Club is excited to announce gun midfielder Adam Cerra has re-signed with the Club for a further five years.
Today’s announcement is another example of a significant coup for Carlton’s future, with Cerra committing long term with a year to run on his existing deal.
Possessing elite kicking skills, he is a balanced midfielder, who is strong both offensively and defensively, bringing some experience to the midfield group now playing over 100 AFL games.
Still just 25 years of age, Cerra enjoyed a strong start to the 2024 season, averaging 21.3 disposals across his first six games, with a standout game against North Melbourne with 22 disposals, seven tackles and a goal.
Cerra enjoyed a career-best season in 2023, playing in all but four games, ranking No.1 at the Blues for inside 50s while also ranking No.2 for clearances and tackles.
Relishing pulling on the Navy Blue in big games at the MCG, he kicked a crucial goal in the Blues’ elimination final win against Sydney in 2023 while also starring in rivalry games against Collingwood and Richmond. He received three Brownlow votes in his Carlton debut against the Tigers back in Round 1, 2022.
Selected at pick No.5 in the 2017 AFL Draft, Cerra has been a great fit at IKON Park since joining from Fremantle at the end of 2021, developing a close bond with Sam Walsh and the midfield group since making the move.
Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin said the commitment of Cerra until at least the end of 2030 is significant for the Club.
“Adam has had an impact in our side since his arrival at the football club, and for him to commit his future long-term at IKON Park is a show of faith, not only with us towards Adam, but also his faith in the Club and his teammates,” Austin said.
“He’s a much-loved, highly respected figure in the playing group, both for what he does on game day and also what he does during the week. He’s dedicated to getting the very best out of himself with the way he prepares and he sets the standard for many.
“He was one of our most consistent players throughout the 2023 season and at just 25, we think he’s still got levels to add to his game. He’s struck up a great relationship with the playing group and his leadership gets better every year.
“Adam has all the qualities we value in a Carlton person, and we know our members and supporters are going to enjoy seeing him continue to grow at our club for a long time to come.”
