CARLTON has welcomed Lou-Lou Field to the Club with pick No.46 in the 2024 Telstra AFL Women’s Draft.
Field - a high defender with years of football experience - has been a fixture at the Western Jets since the age of 14, leading the team as captain while also earning selection for Vic Metro.
Overcoming injury earlier this year, Field enjoyed a strong end to the 2024 campaign, with her ability to read the play and where to position herself highlighting her natural football instincts and leadership qualities both on and off the field.
Renowned for her booming kick that kickstarts her team’s attacks, the 18-year-old is a high-production defender who has played in the Coates Talent League for the last three seasons, with her final performance seeing her accumulate 27 disposals and six rebound 50s.
Featuring for the Jets at just 15, Field turned heads instantly with her rebounding prowess, going on to average 19 disposals, five marks and four tackles throughout 2024.
Her impressive second half of the season earned her an invite to the National Combine, where she placed fourth in the agility test.
Field - who loves a run off half-back and has put in the work over a number of years - will fit in seamlessly at IKON Park, according to Head of AFLW Ash Naulty.
“We’re really happy to have Lou-Lou join Carlton: someone who has been on draft radars ever since her first Coates Talent League game three years ago,” Naulty said.
“A prolific defender, Lou-Lou has really impressive intercept ability, but what stands out most is her football IQ and her understanding of the game. She’s played footy ever since a young age and some of the traits she has are hard to teach.
“She’s a natural leader at just 18, having captained the Jets this year. We feel like we’ve added some exciting talent to our backline and we’re really looking forward to seeing what she can achieve in Navy Blue, working under the likes of Kerryn Peterson and Mimi Hill.”
