CARLTON midfielders Dayna Finn and Lily Goss alongside defender Ciara Fitzgerald have signed a contract extension, keeping them in the Navy Blue until at least the end of 2026.
Arriving at the Blues from Ireland after signing in the 2022 AFLW off-season, Finn has impressed in her first two seasons at Carlton.
With 15 games under her belt, in the Navy Blue, her best match in 2024 came in the Round 2 win against Gold Coast where she collected 17 disposals and took seven marks.
Finn is a multifaceted elite athlete with a strong knowledge of the professional standards it takes to be a sportsman, representing her County in Gaelic football and her country basketball.
Finn scored her first goal in her AFLW career, a match-winner, in what was a thrilling finish against rivals Collingwood.
Goss, a one-club player, was recruited from the Blues VFLW side in the 2022 Draft. She has become a formidable and reliable midfielder playing every match since Round 1 of 2023.
A natural defensive midfielder, hunting for the ball and tackle pressure are standout features of her game. Evident in her Week 9 display against Collingwood where she laid nine tackles and collected 14 disposals.
Fitzgerald was recruited to Carlton as an injury replacement player after Lulu Beatty was placed on the inactive list for the 2023 season.
Averaging at an elite level of tackles per game across her career, at 3.5, the athletic defender has a natural ability to read the play and impact.
“Dayna, Lily and Ciara are all talented players and athletes. They are extremely hardworking and determined, and are positive examples for their teammates, through their adherence to elite-level standards and practices and work ethic they have all shown throughout the season,” Head of AFLW Naulty said.
“All three of them had a very consistent season, featuring in all matches, with Dayna playing all but one game. They have shown athletes and the growth they have both shown has been impressive.
“Dayna has swiftly picked up the game and has demonstrated remarkable growth over the past year. This included a seamless transition from a half-back to a wing role, which she adapted to exceptionally well."
“Lily is a quiet achiever but makes such an impact for our side in many ways, she is consistent in executing whatever is asked, dominant in the contest, and hungry to win the ball.
“Ciara has played an important role across the season with her versatility across the field, both down back and in the air which combined with her talent at ground level posing a real threat to opposition.
“We are excited to see them continue in the Navy Blue and cannot wait to see what they can produce in the future.”
