The Carlton Football Club has now accessed two first round selections in the upcoming draft, after executing a double pick swap on Day 5 of the 2024 Continental Tyres Trade Period.
The Blues now have picks Nos.12 and 14, courtesy of a move that sees the Club strengthen its hand in a highly regarded draft.
Selection No.14 was received from Hawthorn, in exchange for the Club’s future first and future second-round picks.
Under AFL rules, a future first and future second can only be traded if a team if able to also acquire an additional future second round pick.
The Blues were able to achieve this by also engaging in a pick swap with Brisbane, which saw the Lions hand over their future second - as well as pick 73 in this year’s draft - in exchange for Carlton’s Nos.34 and 66 selections.
This pick swap with the Lions enabled the Club to retain its draft points for this year, while also paving the way to receive the additional first-round selection from Hawthorn.
Carlton now holds picks Nos.12, 14, 69, 72 and 73 in this year’s draft.
