CRIPPS, Curnow, McKay, Weitering.

Carlton has had four players named in the All-Australian squad of 44 ahead of Thursday’s final team announcement, with only Brisbane and Fremantle having more representatives.

A quartet who was central to the Blues’ best footy in 2024, it was no surprise to see any of Patrick Cripps, Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay or Jacob Weitering in the extended squad.

Cripps looks to be a lock for the final team, in what would be his fourth All-Australian selection. The Carlton captain had a year which rivalled his Brownlow Medal-winning season this year, leading from the front and willing his team over the line on numerous occasions throughout 2024.

Looking to add to his All-Australian blazers from 2018, 2019 and 2022, Cripps didn’t miss a game all season and led the competition for clearances and contested possessions as he got back to his ball-winning best.

Curnow is hoping to make it three consecutive All-Australian selections, with the 2022 and 2023 Coleman Medallist having another consistent season in front of the big sticks this year.

Despite being hindered by an ankle injury in the final month, Curnow recorded another 57 goals for the season, ranking third in the Coleman Medal leaderboard while also averaging the second-most amount of contested marks of anyone this season. Should he earn selection in the final team, he will become the first Blue since Chris Judd to receive three straight All-Australian blazers.

His partner in crime in McKay had just as impressive of a season in 2024, starting his campaign in a blaze of glory with the match-winning goal against Brisbane in Opening Round for a famous comeback win.

McKay - who was named in the All-Australian side in 2021 for his Coleman Medal-winning season - was a force up forward for the Blues this season, averaging a career-high tally for disposals and marks while also recording 46 goals — the second highest tally of his career.

Rounding out the selections is Weitering, who is remarkably still looking for his first All-Australian selection as he made his five consecutive years in the squad.

Once again the leader of the Blues’ defensive brigade, Weitering was as consistent as ever in season 2024, overcoming the disappointment of a pre-season injury, ranking No.1 at the Blues for intercepts and one percenters while only featuring behind Curnow and McKay for contested marks.

The team will be announced on Thursday night at the AFL Awards.
