GO AGAIN.

Carlton Senior Coach Michael Voss was proud of the way his team fought in the West and is looking forward to them replicating that energy and effort against the Saints at Marvel Stadium.

As the Blues head into the last game of the home-and-away season, their focus will be on embracing the occasion and paying extra detail to their individual roles and helping one another.

Here is what Voss had to say about the crunch clash with St Kilda on Sunday afternoon:

On player availability:

"I’ll start with the bad news, Charlie is not playing, so that’s the not-so-great news. We thought he might be able to pull up pretty well from some of the things he did the other day, but he hasn’t pulled up as well as we expected so we’ll just make that call now: it gives us an opportunity to lock in on what our forward mix is going to be. We’re banking in that they can get the job done a couple of times in a row.

"It’s something he’s had to manage for a little while, but I just feel like we have to give it a bit more time to settle but that will be three or four weeks after his last incident. I feel pretty confident that the best-case scenario is that he’ll be fit and available [should the Blues progress].

"[Adam Saad] will play. There are varying degrees of hamstring injuries. He had a very low-grade that if we were really pushed, we probably could have done something last week, but we chose not to do that given the flight over to Perth as a factor. He came pretty close last week which gives us a fair bit of confidence that he’ll be right this week."

12:32

On Brodie Kemp remaining in the forward line:

"I think after he kicked four, I think we can confirm he’ll probably stay forward. I would’ve thought I’m not providing any surprises to the opposition there! He did a great job last week.

"We were able to bank on a number of guys to hit the scoreboard, they were able to share the load throughout that entire game. I thought our forwards were fantastic last week with the way they approached it, but they’ve got a different task again when you look at the personnel that St Kilda has down there, they are a hard team to score against.

"I think the energy down there that the forwards were able to bring last week was a real buy in to the team and a real buy in to bringing pressure to the ball. If we can bring that effort and intensity and bring a little of that system and role to this game, it’ll go a long way to helping us win."

13:10

On Mitch McGovern:

"He’s got to get through a couple of things today, he won’t do as much as the others. He played last week so we’ll give him every opportunity to get up."

On bringing the same energy and effort from Round 23:

"Our game is always based on our effort. You hear us talk about pressure all the time, but without it, the system doesn’t operate. Then there’s the roles we need players to play and the energy. That’s the simplicity we wanted to bring to the game and that’s the simplicity we’ll bring to this game, it’s all about effort and system and your role within it."

On the young players' role in the win:

"I was so proud of them. I was really proud of the whole team. The attention to detail that they put into their jobs and the real energy they brought for each other, I thought it was our best team performance of the year and probably for quite some time.

"The way that they were able to give the attention to detail to the jobs we assigned them was exceptional. We’re going to ask the same this week, we’re going to ask them to double down in that area to get the job done and put a heap of excitement in behind it.

"When you’re there for each other, it looks like they grew in confidence across the whole day, but that’s the game over there. We’ve got to restart, we’ve got a different opponent and a different round to play in and hopefully we can lock in and get the same roles done."

08:36

On the potential of Sam Docherty making a return should the Blues make finals:

"He’s joining in main training, he knocks on my door every single day, I tell him to go away until next week and we’ll see where it goes from there. He’s been off doing his rehab and getting himself right.

"I’ve just said 'once the knock on the door comes and you say you’re ready, we can look at it then', but until then, I’ve been focused on what the boys have got and the job we need to get. If that opportunity exists then so be it, but I’d love the chance to give him that opportunity if he is ready, because it means we’re playing finals.

"We love him, we absolutely love him and he’s provided a great bit of fresh energy and he’s absolutely committed to try and give himself the best opportunity.

"All those variables will be considered very seriously, it won’t be just something we roll out. He’s been part of a lengthy rehab program, we have to respect that, but all those risks will be managed for him and the team and we’ll go from there."

01:18

On the importance of the Round 24 clash:

"Embrace the moment for what it is. This is a really good opportunity at the back end of the season to figure in something and it either has a consequence or an opportunity. For us, that’s an extremely exciting game to play in.

"The one unique thing we get at Carlton is we get crowds and we get to play in big games. I like to think that over the last period of time, we’ve been able to thrive in those and look forward to those moments to play in front of our supporters and in front of those crowds.

"It’s no difference for us, the prize is somewhat different. I’ve run through my ladder predictor, and I think we can still finish fourth, that’s the angle I’m taking anyway!"

01:51

On the threat of St Kilda:

"They started their season slow, but their most recent form line has been really strong. They’ve been fairly settled, there’s some things in our game that certainly resemble what they were last year, so they’ve been more consistent in the way they’ve been able to do that.

"There’s a challenge in front of us, they’re pretty stable down back so we know the threats that are down there. their transition and speed on the ball from the back half is clearly something that is a real strength of theirs.

"We want to get as many opportunities as we can to test that but it’s going to be a pretty key part of the game."

On Corey Durdin's shoulder:

"We’re pretty confident. Everything is about function for him and a bit of the pain side. He’s come out of the game pretty well, it seems like he’s strength indicators are pretty strong.

"We have to accept there is an element of risk within that, but he seems pretty confident. He trained on Tuesday, so if he gets through today, we’ll have to put him through his paces to confirm that selection."

02:17

On selecting fit players:

"I think what we try and put out there is the team that is fit and healthy to get the job done, that’s the principle we took into last week which was the opportunity afforded to the younger players to come into the team.

"We like to think we can reward that again and they can bring the same amount of energy that they had last week. I don’t think they’ll be by themselves: I think we have a team, a club and a group of supporters that will bring that energy to the stadium as well.

"That’s what we’re looking forward to, we’re looking forward to that opportunity and this game. We live somewhere between consequence and opportunity and that’s the thing about high-performance sport and where you sit in the competition.

"That’s a privilege to be in. That’s not something to shy away from, that’s something to step into."

On Sam Walsh's form:

"He probably hasn’t been at the high level he’s had, but I liked his game from last week though. I feel like he really got after some things in his game and brought some of that real run that we need. Some of it is patience and persistence to be able to work through his game.

"Sam Walsh is a terrific player and we probably benchmark him off some pretty high standards and that’s what we’ve been used to seeing. You don’t always meet those - which can be for him, not exactly where he wants to be - but he’s a really important player for us."

On Orazio Fantasia's availability:

"He’s good, he’s fit and healthy and available. We have to use this training session to get through before we finalise the team. We’re looking forward to it."
