SARAH Hosking has played in front of 53,000 people on the AFLW’s biggest stage.
Still, for the Carlton AFLW and VFLW star the Carlton Respects round is one that holds an added importance that spreads further than just the football field.
As an ambassador for Carlton Respects, Sarah Hosking proudly spoke about the impact that the program is having in the wider community.
“Carlton Respects is amazing initiative from the Club. For me to be a part of that personally is amazing,” said Hosking ahead of this weekend’s Carlton Respects round
“Some of the stats are alarming and sort of really confronting. There’s over one woman per week in Australia that are killed at the hands of their current or former partner.
“Just to raise awareness amongst the community and have and impact.”
Carlton Respects aims to spread awareness for gender equality for the prevention of violence against women.
Supported by Our Watch, Carlton Respects sees the Club conduct education and awareness-raising programs in the schools and workplaces across Victoria to help the prevention of violence against women.
At the centre of the program is the Carlton Respects round, held during both the AFLW and AFL seasons.
Saturday night’s game against the Dogs will see the Carlton players swap their navy blue socks for orange ones, as part of the “Pull Your Socks Up’ campaign.
Having played in the Carlton Respects AFLW game earlier this year, Hosking believes the round is beginning to have a real impact in terms of spreading the message and raising awareness amongst the wider football community – something that the 23-year old is truly proud to be a part of.
“It’s really important for me and our girls to be able to have that Carlton Respects round. It’s really important for the community and it just adds another aspect to how we can sort of impact and help the community as well. Raising that awareness is number one,” said Hosking
“It’s just about bringing the community together and trying to have an impact as much as I possibly can to create the awareness for violence against women.
“Hopefully, whatever kind of impact I can have in the community and amongst my teammates as well to raise awareness.”
