MORE settled than ever.
Blake Acres has had quite the 149 games so far, playing across three clubs in two different states during his AFL career.
But the 28-year-old feels like his career is just getting started since coming to IKON Park, believing his best footy is still to come.
Owning his role on the wing and using his experience to help develop the next generation coming through at Carlton, Acres feels happy, settled and determined in the Navy Blue.
“It’s been a bit of a journey, I feel like I’ve been all over Australia with it,” Acres said.
“I started at the Saints, then Freo, and now I’m here and really feel at home at Carlton so I’m excited.
“I feel like my best years are still ahead of me. The last couple of years have been great for my footy and being able to play some finals – I'm really enjoying footy at the moment and hopefully got a lot more in the tank still.”
The winger has definitely left his mark in the Navy Blue, forever living in Carlton folklore for his 2023 finals heroics.
What might fly under the radar externally is the effort Acres puts in off the ball, regularly running the length of the ground to assist his teammates at either end.
Lauding the further growth in his game during his time at Carlton and the way the team is gelling under Michael Voss, the Western Australian is clear on what he needs to do and what the group can improve.
“I think where the Club is at, where the team is at, where I’m at and the role I’m playing at the moment, I feel like it’s all fitting in nicely and I keep trying to get better every week and keep improving my game,” he said.
“We need to fix our stoppage stuff up at the moment, so we’ve got a lot of work to do this week and really ramp that up, if we can get that going, our game will get even stronger than where it’s at.”
Looking to challenge Adelaide this weekend at Marvel Stadium, Carlton will want to get back to their best in the midfield, with Acres admitting the team wasn’t at its best on the weekend against Fremantle.
“We didn’t do a lot right on the weekend, and that showed in 95 per cent of the game – we got done in the stoppage by a fair bit. We’ve got a lot to work on, but it’s still early in the year,” he explained.
“I feel like we’re in a better spot now than we were this time last year, so hopefully we get a few guys back soon [as well].”
