CARLTON midfielder Blake Acres believes Sam Docherty’s impact won’t be lost on the playing group in 2024.

It was announced on Saturday evening that the beloved Blue ruptured his ACL and tore the meniscus in his right knee in the first quarter of the Opening Round clash with Brisbane, prompting an outpouring of support from Carlton fans and the football world alike.

Acres echoed those sentiments when speaking to the Sunday Footy Show in the aftermath of the Blues’ one-point win over the Lions.

“We got told [on Saturday], the same as everyone. I’m shattered for ‘Doc’.

“If you know ‘Doc’ as a person, he’s one of the great football people. We were all hoping and thinking it was quite a minor injury, so to get that news last night, I’m sure he’s as shattered as we all are.”

However, as Docherty has shown time and time again, he has never let difficult circumstances dictate what he can do for others.

Acres expects the veteran to keep investing in his teammates both on and off the field.

“Knowing ‘Doc’ as a person, he’ll put his heart and soul into the group. He’ll be with us for the whole year, supporting us in every way he can.”
