FOR MEG Robertson, it was a whirlwind 24 hours that saw her drafted to the Blues. 

Hopping off a plane to Malaysia that day, Robertson had her family over to watch the draft unfold together. 

With her father Ben playing for the Blues in 1992 and her great uncle a three-time premiership player, it’s fair to say it was pandemonium in the Robertson house when Meg’s name was read out. 

“I was tired because I just got off the plane but I got the family around and just had a good night,” Robertson said. 

“I got to bed a bit late because I was just so excited, everyone was up and about and it was a great time and good fun – I’m just happy to be here.”

Robertson was hoping she’d land at IKON Park, having trained with the Blues throughout 2023, getting to know the team and how they operate. 

Lauding the facilities, staff and professional standards, the Dandenong Stingrays product couldn’t be happier with the selection. 

“Obviously the awesome facilities, great coaches, great staff [were a factor] and I’ve done a fair bit with the girls and they were all awesome, super welcoming and supportive. I was just so excited they read my name out because I knew it was an awesome club,” she said. 

“I didn't know anyone before doing stuff with them the past year. They’re all fresh faces, but it will be good to build relationships with them throughout the year so it’s not too daunting.”

One relationship Robertson is keen to build is with midfielder Mimi Hill, who the 18-year-old claims to model her game off. 

Wanting to earn her spot before eyeing any midfield time, Robertson couldn’t have a better mentor in mind than Hill to show her the ropes.

“I definitely am looking forward to playing with Mimi Hill – I think she’s awesome, I base my game off a lot of what she does, so being able to play alongside her will be really cool,” she said.

“I think I’ll probably start off in the forward line, or back pocket, and work my way to the midfield as fast as I can.”
