“TO BE able to call the Carlton Football Club home means absolutely everything to me.”

When Ashton Moir was given his Navy Blue polo just prior to speaking to Carlton Media, he instantly asked whether he could keep it.

It’s safe to say he was happy to be there.

After Monday night, Moir’s focus was immediately on getting across to Melbourne and starting out life as a Carlton footballer.

It hasn’t been easy going for Moir this year. After long being touted as a top-five pick, a hip injury derailed Moir’s season, who was gleefully snapped up by the Blues with the final pick of a marathon first round.

While it wasn’t the year he was expecting, he couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

“It’s a clean slate now: the hard work starts. I can’t wait to get stuck into it straight away,” Moir said.

“I’m absolutely stoked to be here. It still hasn’t really sunk in to be honest . . . I wasn’t expecting to go on the Monday night, but to be able to have my name called was the best feeling I’ve felt in my life.”

It’s been a whirlwind for days for the new Blue, who had a new club on Monday night, new teammates on Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon, and a new home - IKON Park - after landing from Adelaide on Wednesday evening.

Making a beeline for Royal Parade, Moir met players and coaches alike that night.

But it was on Tuesday afternoon where he received the greatest shock of all.

“Bryce Gibbs rocked up at my door, which was absolutely surreal.

“He played at the same local club and SANFL club as myself. To be able to have him present my first guernsey was just unbelievable.”

Genuine surprise or bad social media acting?

“I had absolutely no idea! I lost control of my emotions, it was the best feeling.”
