Carlton backman Kade Simpson believes the Blues must continue to “take the game on” as they prepare to play St Kilda on Anzac Day.
The Blues have made solid starts in the first three rounds, but have struggled to continue the effort over four quarters.
Speaking on radio station SEN on Friday, Simpson said his team was determined to find consistency.
“I think we’ve shown we can play good footy but it’s just not consistent and it’s not for four quarters," Simpson said.
“In this day and age every side is so competitive, you’re just not going to win a game if you’re stringing together one or two good quarters."
Simpson, who didn’t miss a game last year, emphasised the players must not go into their “shells” as they continue to strive for their first win of the season.
“Last week against the Bombers was a step in the right direction, but we still didn’t win and we were down by five or six goals, so we’ve got a lot of improvement," he said.
“We’re playing some good footy in stages, we’ve just got to put that together."
Chris Judd will miss the Anzac Day clash as a precaution after experiencing a stiff lower back after training.
Simpson expects Judd will watch the game from the comfort of his infamous man cave.
“It’s quite impressive, I’ve seen a few pictures .. he’s got the pool table and the big screen and some nice scotch and wine – it’s a fair set up," Simpson said.
“I reckon Bec would have had most of the say (in the décor), I don’t think Juddy’s picking out bear skins and antler horns hanging on the wall,” he joked.
