Courage, sacrifice, mateship: Carlton vice-captain Michael Jamison says those are the words his teammates will have top of mind when they run out in Wellington on Saturday.
Carlton will take on St Kilda on the Anzac day stage in a Round 4 battle across the Tasman.
Jamison says it’s a special day and he feels privileged to be playing on it.
“It’s just a huge privilege to be able to represent not only the football club but our country, on playing on what is probably our country’s greatest day,” Jamison said.
“It’s something the boys are all really looking forward to .. playing to honour the ANZACs.”
Ahead of the game, the Carlton Football Club unveiled a memorial at Ikon Park this week, to pay tribute to the 16 former Carlton players who gave their lives in both world wars.
Players and coaches attended a brief ceremony to mark the occasion, after which coach Mick Malthouse spoke to the team about what it means to play on Anzac Day.
“He (Mick) just mentioned what an honour it’s going to be for us and what we really have to think about when we represent those past heroes in Australian history,” Jamison said.
Jamison appears on the cover of the AFL Record for the match in Wellington.
