INDIGENOUS GUERNSEY:
Carlton Football Club’s 2017 Indigenous Guernsey honours Blues champion and dual premiership player Syd Jackson.
In conjunction with apparel partner Nike, the guernsey was designed by Indigenous artist Trevor Pickett.
Depicting the life and story of Jackson, the front of the guernsey features seven boomerangs, representing the Roelands Southwest Native Mission on Seven Hills Road where he was taken as part of the Stolen Generation.
The five footprints on the guernsey showcase Jackson leaving alone on his journey to the east to pursue football. They also represent the No.5 that he made famous at Carlton.
The 136 circles on the guernsey represent the 136 games Jackson played for Carlton between 1969 and 1976.
RING OF HONOUR:
Carlton’s 202-game player Andrew Walker will ring the historic old blue bell at the top of Carlton’s race 15 minutes prior to the first bounce, before being inducted into the Carlton Ring of Honour on Sunday afternoon.
The high-flying forward from Echuca was drafted with pick No.2 in the 2003 NAB AFL National Draft and went on to make his debut in Round 5, 2004 against West Coast.
Walker booted 139 goals across his 13-year career, and was the first Indigenous player to reach 200 games at Carlton.
