DARCY Vescio has topped the Carlton table for AFLCA votes from Round 1.
Polling nine votes, Vescio slotted a game-high three goals along with eight contested possessions and four tackles, with the AFLW veteran still firing on all cylinders.
Putting through the first goal of the game, it was a classic Vescio performance that got the team going on the scoreboard.
It didn’t take debutant Marianna Anthony to settle into the game, polling five votes for her physical performance which saw her total 11 tackles, eight contested possessions and five clearances.
Anthony’s ability to hunt the contest and opposition was on display, turning the head of many Carlton fans who were seeing her in action for the first time.
Co-vice captain Jess Dal Pos put on arguably her best performance in Navy Blue, earning herself three votes while she gathered 19 disposals, 10 contested possessions and nine tackles.
Taking the captains reins alongside Mimi Hill in the absence of Kerryn Peterson, Dal Pos’ intensity and pressure around the ball was the definition of leading by example.
The No.5 in Abbie McKay earned two votes for a comprehensive performance, where the 22-year-old delivered nine tackles, five clearances and a very classy goal, picking up where she left off in season seven.
Rounding out the votes was Jess Good and Club debutant Harriet Cordner, who both received one vote.
Good totalled 20 hitouts - along with six contested possessions - on a day where she played primary ruck, while Cordner's first game for her new club - and her first at the level in over 18 months - saw her provide a physical presence that couldn't be understated, taking on a key leadership role with nine intercept and contested possessions.
