SIX Blues are in line for AFLPA honours come season’s end.
Voted on by their peers, a trio of Carlton players have received nominations for the Best Captain, Best First-Year Player and Robert Rose (Most Courageous) awards to be presented in the post-season.
Carlton’s skipper for the last five seasons, Patrick Cripps’ leadership has been on full display once again in 2023, taking the onus in recent weeks to spearhead his team’s late-season resurgence.
The reigning Brownlow Medallist finished fourth in the Best Captain award last year, and he’ll be looking to go a few levels better this time around following a campaign where he has led as well as anyone.
Another player who featured in the top five last year was Sam Docherty, who it comes as no surprise is Carlton’s nominee for the player exemplifying standout courage every week.
Docherty has continued to put his body on the line with regularity for the Blues, standing where many fear to tread in another consistent season for the Carlton veteran — and that’s not to mention his courage off the field.
On the back of an AFL Rising Star nomination a few weeks ago, Ollie Hollands has also been nominated for the Best First-Year Player award after a debut season which has seen the young Blue play 16 games and look right at home on the wing.
The Blues have also put forward their three nominations for the Most Valuable Player award: 2023 Coleman Medallist Charlie Curnow, co-vice captain Jacob Weitering and midfield gun Adam Cerra.
