Kernahan and Swann on Etihad Stadium
The issues relating to the Etihad Stadium surface are being addressed by the correct organisations.
“We were supportive of the matter being raised by Chris Judd following a game last month and this resulted in confidential discussions between Carlton, the stadium and the AFL. I am sure this meeting, supported by the AFLPA, led to the recent discussions between the AFL, AFLPA, turf experts and Etihad Stadium officials, a meeting convened to find solutions to improve the surface of the ground,” Greg Swann said.
“It is important to have the right people and organisations involved when finding a solution to an issue and we believe the recent meeting is a very positive step in working to ensure the surface of Etihad Stadium is improved to enable all players to perform at their best,” Swann added.
Stephen Kernahan agreed that the right people were now involved in finding a solution to the matter and said it was important for the game and in particular for the players.
“All we can do is listen to the players, and as a Club we have supported the players concerns on this matter. It is not about looking for media headlines, this is about providing the best possible playing conditions for our players to ensure we are all able to enjoy a great spectacle.”
Kernahan and Swann were on the football panel at the Peter Mac Cup Breakfast this morning when the topic of the Etihad Stadium surface was discussed. Both agreed the surface has not been to the standard that is required but said this was being addressed. In reminding guests that it was Chris Judd who officially brought the matter to the attention of Etihad Stadium and the AFL, Swann joked that obviously it didn’t do much good in reference to the time it has taken for further action to take place.
“It would appear the joke was lost on some people, however there is no doubt the initial confidential discussions involving Chris have helped ensure this matter received the attention it requires and is now being addressed by the right people.”
