ONE step closer.
Carlton has named its squad for Saturday’s practice match against Sydney, in what will be the Blues’ final dress rehearsal ahead of the season proper.
With all eyes on the Round 1 clash with Gold Coast on Saturday 2 September, Carlton has named a largely settled line-up to the one which took to the field against reigning premier Melbourne in last week’s match simulation.
However, one player who will feature for the first time in 2023 is Abbie McKay, with last season's career-best Blue to reunite with Mimi Hill in the middle of the ground.
In all, there will be six Game Changers who are yet to debut at senior level that will come up against the Swans: the experienced Harriet Cordner, draftees Marianna Anthony and Maddy Hendrie, Irish recruits Dayna Finn and Erone Fitzpatrick as well as VFLW-turned-AFLW Blue Gen Lawson-Tavan.
Mia Austin will also aim to put her best foot forward once more after making a long-awaited return to action against the Dees last weekend, while Keeley Sherar will be keen to continue her strong form displayed in a standout pre-season at IKON Park.
The practice match begins at 1:05pm at the SCG (gates open from 12:40pm), with the game to be live-streamed on the Carlton website.
