Nick Stevens was involved in a part of Carlton history today when he was the subject of the final media interview to be conducted in the Social Club at Princes Park. Stevens was interviewed by Nathan Buckley for a special half-time segment to be shown during Channel 7’s broadcast of Friday night’s match against St Kilda from the MCG.
The interview was conducted in what was the Carlton Football Club Board Room on level two of the Social Club. With preliminary engineering and inspection works being conducted prior to the redevelopment at Princes Park, there is no longer furniture in the boardroom and two stools were brought into the room for the interview.
Thankfully the historical painting depicting Carlton’s 300 game players and the Carlton team of the 20th Century was still hanging on the wall making an ideal backdrop for the interview.
It is ironic that this final interview featured Nick Stevens because it was the desire to recruit him to Carlton at the end of the 2003 season that resulted in the boardroom being renovated.
“While I wasn’t aware at the time I have since been told that the Club renovated the boardroom and ensured it was in top shape for when I came across from Adelaide after announcing I wanted to return to Victoria. They even had a couple of premiership cups on display for that first meeting so everyone was obviously very keen to make a good impression,” Stevens joked at the end of his interview with Buckley.
Look out for the special interview, the historical last in the Social Club, at half-time during Channel 7’s broadcast of Carlton’s home game against St Kilda on Friday night.
